By virtue of the 3Cs' second team preventing Heywood 1 from achieving a 7-0 win in their recent encounter, 3Cs 1 are now assured once again of winning the Manchester League's "A" Division Championship - the 17th time the club has won the title in the past 19 years. 3Cs 2 put up a fine display in going down 5-2 especially as the team included two of our 6th team players.

3Cs 1 have now become the first team in the 117 year history of the Manchester League to win the Division A Championship outright for 7 consecutive seasons - the only other team to win it in 7 successive years were Bolton (1971-77) although two of those were shared.

26 March 2019

The 3Cs' first team, having already won the Manchester League championship, lost their first game of the season with a 4-3 defeat away to Chorlton although the team's performance was encouraging for the club's future as it included just two regular first team players.

20 December 2018

Match of the season ... 3Cs 1 v 3Cs 2 in the Manchester League's A Division

The 3Cs' first team won the encounter 6.5 - 0.5 with Karl Moorcroft (left of the centre photo) gaining the draw for 3Cs 2.

The strength of the club can be judged by the fact that the average grade of the competing players on the night was 178 even though, due to several of the club's higher graded players being unvailable for the match, some of the players could still be eligible to play for the 3Cs' fourth team in the Manchester League.

17 December 2018

The 3Cs' 5th team went down 3-2 away to Northenden 2 in the Milner Trophy although there was yet another fine debut performance with Lee Newton winning in his first ever match for the club.

Our 6th team travelled away to play Heywood 6 in the opening round of the Milner Trophy and included three players making their debuts for 3Cs. Despite this the team gained a draw although Heywood progress into the next round due to the board count rule.

Father and son, Shahed and Zayeem Alam both achieved excellent wins in their games while Mo Rohman, playing on top board, achieved an impressive draw against a much higher graded and experienced opponent.

These games took place on the same day that Magnus Carlsen retained his world title - with the 3Cs' 2 win including victories by Mitchell Burke and Kevin Ye.

Why mention just these two players from the team of seven ?
Magnus, Mitchell and Kevin were all born on 30 November !

Another player on the 3Cs' second team was Ran Song from China who is a friend of Crystal Ashton and currently visiting the UK with her family. Ran and Crystal often used to compete against each other when in China.
