3Cs are the only club throughout the country to have been honoured with the English Chess Federation's "Club of the Year" award on two occasions - 2006 and 2014.

The annual award is presented not just to the club which has performed the very best over the boards throughout the season but is even more of a recognition for the hard work and dedication which has occured behind-the-scenes both in promoting the game as well as constantly aiming to increase their membership.

The photos below show 3Cs' founder Steve Rigby receiving the 2006 award from Stan Goodall of the ECF and celebrating a repeat of the occasion eight years later, much to the joy of another generation of 3Cs' youngsters.

ECF President's Award ...


Steve Rigby (pictured left) was himself the recipient of one of the English Chess Federation's most prestigious accolades in 2009 when he was honoured with the ECF President's Award for services to English chess.
