Any player who takes part in more than 3 games per season in any league is required to become a Bronze member of the national governing organisation. (3 games or less requires no charge). Bronze membership for 2017-18 is £16 (adult); £9.50 (under-18 before 1 Sep 2017) and can be paid at any time in the season up to end of August 2018.

Players who take part individually in other events require Silver membership of the ECF, whilst anyone involved in a FIDE tournament (ie 4NCL) needs Gold membership. The ECF also allow under-18s one season's free membership (Silver level) if they have never previously been members of the Federation.
